The Contemporary Quilt Art Association (CQA) believes this exhibit will make you forget gingham and nine-patch quilts. The members of the Contemporary Quilt Art Association aim to create art that provokes, engages, and inspires viewers. Started in 1986 by a group of artists who wanted to take the traditional craft of the quilt in innovative new directions while honoring the quilt tradition, CQA supports and educates Washington quilt artists and the public with its imaginative exhibits and programs.

Natural Geometries is the group’s latest exhibit—an exploration of the lines and structures found in nature. The chosen works draw on the enormous diversity of flora and fauna that enrich Washington state’s coastlines, forests, and waters. A total of 46 works by 26 artists are represented in this stunning display.

Rhythms and Sequences
Top Left: Big Hear Little Sleeves by Teresa Getty. Bottom Left: By Eric Day Chamberlain. Top Right: White Socks by Becky Street. Middle Right:  Still Life on Terra Red by Flora Ramirez-Bustamante. Bottom Right: Generous Country by Anna Macrae.

Five artists with deep interest in Abstraction and the influences and derivations from objective art and non-objective art. Their work reveals influences, progressions and re-examination of artistic moments and sensibilities. Sequence of positions, tones, values, colors and shapes, sequences of repetition, alternations and recurring breaks lead their abstract representations to a rhythmic visual sensation of continuation and motion.
